UPDATE: Victim identified in 19th traffic fatality of the year, speed believed to be a factor

KOIN 6 NEWS - Fire crews had to cut this car apart to extract the victim in Thursday's crash.A driver was killed in a single-car crash early Thursday in the Lloyd District.

The victim is identified as Justin Thomas Hauser, 33, of Vancouver, Washington.

According to police, at 12:48 a.m. on July 13, North Precinct officers responded to the report of a driver striking a pole near the intersection of North Broadway and North Benton Avenue.

When officers and medical personnel arrived, they found one person in the crashed vehicle. Fire and medical personnel extracted the driver from the vehicle in order to render him medical aid, but he driver died at the scene.

The Traffic Division's Major Crash Team responded to conduct an investigation. Speed is believed to be a factor.

Police says this is the 19th traffic related fatality in Portland this year. There have been nine traffic related fatalities in the last three weeks. By this time last year, 25 people had been killed in crashes.
