Hillsboro man tries to run over Forest Grove police sergeant
A 20-year-old Hillsboro man was arrested early Saturday morning after he attempted to elude police officers and tried to run over a sergeant.
Joseph E. Eison is charged attempted assault, assault, attempting to elude police officers, driving under the influence of intoxicants, unlawful use of weapon, two counts of misdemeanor hit-and-run, criminal mischief, escape, resisting arrested and a misdemeanor warrant from Yamhill County.
The sergeant was not hurt. Eison suffered minor injuries during the incident and was cleared at a local hospital before being lodged at the Washington County Jail.
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded late Friday night to a hit-and-run crash at Northwest Banks Road and Sellers Road in Banks. The vehicle reportedly crashed into a power pole and then drove away.
A Forest Grove Police sergeant spotted the vehicle, a 1994 Jeep Cherokee, as it entered Forest Grove, but the driver refused to stop, so WCSO deputies and officers from the Forest Grove Police Department and Cornelius Police Department pursued it.
During the chase, the Jeep turned onto a dead-end road where the sergeant got out and commanded Eison to exit the vehicle. Eison instead drove the vehicle straight at the sergeant, the WCSO said. The sergeant was not hit.
After another short pursuit, Eison crashed into a yard and fled on foot before officers detained him.
