Officers, U.S. marshals take shooting suspect into custody
An 18-year-old Portland man was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with the Jan. 21 shooting death of 30-year-old Ellante Davone Williams.
Portland police, Gresham police and the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force arrested Avarihae K. Collins at about 11:43 a.m., April 4, during a traffic stop in the 17300 block of Northeast Halsey Street. Collins was taken into custody without incident and lodged in the Multnomah County Jail on charges of murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm and a parole violation for a second-degree robbery conviction. He is the second person charged in the shooting.
Williams was shot at about 5:37 p.m., Jan. 21 near Southwest Fourth Avenue and Stark Street. He later died at a local hospital.
During a search of the area, officers arrested 24-year-old Aaron D. Birt in connection with the shooting. On March 8, a Multnomah County grand jury indicted Collins for the crime.
