Man with 33 convictions released from jail, wanted again
Portland Police officers are asking for the public's help to find a man they say is wanted on a felony warrant for second-degree burglary.
Melvin Lee Tillman, 63, already has 33 felony convictions, three misdemeanor convictions and a dozen parole violations on his record, according to court documents. He was 14 years old when first convicted, court docs say.
This latest warrant was issued on Thursday, May 10, and relates to a string of alleged burglaries in Northwest Portland on April 19 of this year.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Tillman is suspected of breaking into Porch Light Antiques, Bearing Service Company, Sterling Coffee, Blush Beauty Bar and Oven and Shaker Pizza.
Tillman is a "serial burglar" who was released from jail just a day after he allegedly robbed those stores, according to a report by KOIN 6 News, The Tribune's media partner.
Police describe Tillman as a bald black man with brown eyes who weighs about 220 pounds and is about five feet, nine inches tall.
"Tillman is known to frequent the shopping districts on Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard, Southeast Belmont Street, Northwest 23rd Avenue and Old Town/ Chinatown," a news release states.
