by: DAVID F. ASHTON - Here looking southward on closed-off S.E. 82nd Avenue, police investigate the car-vs.-pedestrian accident that severely injured a young man.Torrential wind-blown rain, falling after dark, is blamed for a mishap on November 20th which badly injured a teenager.

It was already dark by 6:45 pm when the youth dashed from the Fred Meyer complex, eastward across S.E. 82nd Avenue, just south of S.E. Raymond Court, and near Foster Road.

“Traffic investigators determined that a 16-year-old boy was struck by a northbound vehicle as he ran across the street,” reported Portland Police Bureau (PPB) Public Information Officer Sgt. Pete Simpson.

“The victim is suffering from life-threatening injuries, and was transported to a Portland hospital,” Simpson added.

For reasons yet unknown, Simpson said, another young man who crossed at the same time as did the victim fled the scene.

“The driver of the vehicle who struck the victim immediately stopped and rendered aid to him,” Simpson said.

“The driver did cooperate with investigators, and it does not appear that drugs, alcohol, or speed were factors in the crash,” Simpson later reported. “No citations have been issued at this time.”

Due to recent federal privacy laws, THE BEE was unable to learn more about the injured teenager or his current condition.
