by: ERIC NORBERG - The damaged bike lay on the sidewalk while officers closed McLoughlin to make their investigation.On Friday, July 12, at one minutes past 11 am, police responded to S.E. 17th Avenue at McLoughlin Boulevard after a report of a collision involving a bicyclist and a garbage truck. The bicyclist, 22-year-old Matthew Charles Casperson of Southeast Portland, was transported to a Portland hospital in critical condition. The garbage truck, driven by 39-year-old Jason Christopher Amundson of Southeast Portland, was turning left onto southbound McLoughlin Boulevard from Southbound 17th; Casperson rode his bike southbound on 17th across the east side of McLoughlin. Amundson cooperated with the investigation, and was not impaired at the time of the crash. No citations have been issued, and the case remains under investigation.
