A midnight swim in a public pool is not supposed to be dangerous...but this time it was

Just after midnight, early Wednesday, July 11, at 12:28 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to a report of a robbery and assault involving a gun at Creston Outdoor Pool, at 4454 S.E. Powell Boulevard.

Arriving officers found a male juvenile victim suffering from what was believed to be a non-life-threatening injury. Emergency medical personnel arrived at the location and provided medical assistance. The victim was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment

During the investigation, officers learned the victim was by the pool with his friends when two suspects approached the group and started going through their belongings. The victim approached the suspects and was assaulted by one of them.

Investigators believe the victim was injured as a result of a suspect striking him with the hard surface of a firearm. Both suspects ran off towards Powell Boulevard from the Outdoor Pool.

There were no reports of gunfire during this incident.

One of the suspects was described as an 18 to 21-year-old Asian male, with a medium build and a goatee, wearing all-black. The second suspect was described as an 18 to 21-year-old black male, with a faded haircut, wearing all-white clothing.

Officers and a police canine team searched the neighborhood, but did not find anyone matching the suspects' descriptions.

Criminalists with the Portland Police Bureau's Forensic Evidence Division responded to assist with the investigation.

Anyone with the information about this incident is asked to contact the Portland Police Bureau Detective Division's Robbery Detail at 503/823-1080.
