Car prowler stabs victim; is found by a K-9 and arrested
On Wednesday, July 11, at 11:18 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 7800 block of S.E. 92nd Avenue, in the Lents neighborhood.
Officers and emergency medical personnel arrived and found a man who appeared to have been assaulted with a knife. Medical personnel transported the victim by ambulance to a Portland area hospital for treatment of what was believed to be a serious but non-life-threatening injury. Investigators believe the victim confronted the assailant as he broke into the victim's parked vehicle. During the interaction, the suspected car prowler stabbed the victim, then fled the scene.
During the investigation officers obtained a description of the suspect and broadcast the information to other officers in the area, and then searched the vicinity with the assistance of a canine team. As officers searched for the suspect, the police dog located a man hiding in brush near S.E. 92nd Avenue and Flavel Street. The suspect, who matched the description, was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect was transported to an area hospital by ambulance after he told officers he had swallowed an unspecified substance. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Justin K. Sennert, was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail, after being examined at a hospital, on charges of Robbery in the First Degree and Assault in the Second Degree -- and on a warrant for Delivery of Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Heroin.
After his arraignment in Multnomah County Court, Sennert learned he'd be facing all of the charges brought against him. He remains in custody at MCDC in lieu of $575,000 combined bail.
