St. Helens contest winners selected, recognized at city council meeting

The annual essay contest is sponsored by the Oregon Mayors Association and encourages municipalities to collect local entries in three different age categories. The winners of the contest each received $100 cash and will have lunch with Mayor Rick Scholl. The winning entries will be submitted to the statewide contest for the chance to win an iPad Air 2 tablet.

The winners in each category are: Rebecca Freitag, in the fourth- through fifth-grade poster category; Kathryn Nelson in the sixth- through eighth-grade essay category; and Elsie Elstoen in the ninth- through 12th-grade digital media category.
