Driver of a Jeep Cherokee backed into another vehicle, drove away last week; woman cited by police

Emma Johnston was cited for failing to perform the duties of a driver on July 28 after police were able to identify the vehicle several days after the initial incident.

Police Chief Terry Moss said the driver of a red Jeep Cherokee collided with another vehicle in the parking lot of the gas station at 373 S. Columbia River Hwy, when it backed into the vehicle.

On Friday evening around 10:30 p.m. a police officer was able to identify the vehicle near the Wal Mart in St. Helens and was able to confirm its relation to the incident on July 25, according to a press release from SHPD.

No one was injured in the incident.

Social media posts indicate that the incident occurred sometime in the evening Tuesday between 5 and 6 p.m. Based on descriptions provided to police, officers were able to identify the vehicle in security footage.
