Stockwell made several interim appointments to key admintrative roles in the district that were left vacant over the summer. The St. Helens School District has filled several administrative vacancies at the high and middle schools left open this summer after the sudden departures of two principals in June and August.

Superintendent Scot Stockwell appointed both James Carlile and Ted Zehr to lead St. Helens High School this fall as interim principals for one semester each, and has appointed Linda Hall to take on the role of interim principal at St. Helens Middle School.

All of the appointees are retired educators with experience as principals in the appropriate grade level, which was a key hiring criteria, Stockwell said.

The district will begin seeking applicants later this school year with the goal of hiring full-time principals for the 2018-19 school year.

New staff at high school

Carlile and Zehr will each take a full semester in the lead administrative role at St. Helens High.

Carlile, who has previously worked as an assistant superintendent for Oregon Department of Education and worked for the Gresham-Barlow School District, will take on the role from August to December.

Zehr, who has previously worked for the St. Helens and Hillsboro school districts, will take on the role from January to June.

Stockwell said he wanted to ensure the interim principal was the best fit, so he asked each of the men to lead for half of the school year.

Former principal BG Aguirre resigned from the district in June to take a position with Portland Public Schools.

Stockwell also hired and appointed Aaron Longo to serve as the athletic director at St. Helens High School.

Longo previously worked in the Mapleton School District, a 1A Division school located in Lane County. He worked as a middle and high school teacher in the district and served as the athletic director and a cross-country coach.

Former St. Helens Athletic Director Matt Morgan left the district at the end of the school year after an internal dispute with school administration.

New principal at middle school

At the middle school, only one interim principal has been appointed — Linda Hall.

Hall previously worked for the Beaverton School District and retired from Cedar Park Middle School in 2011. She worked as a principal at the school from 2004 to 2011, according to the school's website.

Former St. Helens Middle School Principal Carol Dowsett resigned from the district in August, citing personal reasons for her departure.
