Wayne Lufkin

Wayne Jeffrey Lufkin of St. Helens died May 18 in Portland. He was 45.

Mr. Lufkin was born Jan. 19, 1967, in St. Helens to Ted and Trudy (Williams) Lufkin, and was the eldest of two children.

Raised in St. Helens, his family has lived in the St. Helens, Yankton, and Warren area since the early 1900s when his great-grandfather moved from Iowa.

He graduated in the class of 1985 and was the prom king that year.

To say he enjoyed life would be an understatement.

He felt most comfortable in the outdoors, hunting for deer and taking in his environment. Later in life he took pleasure in watching NASCAR and Sifi channel programs.

His greatest pleasure was his family.

He is survived by his children, Ashley Cutright and (Britt) of Ft. Bragg, N.C., Cody Lufkin of St. Helens and Jessica Rockdaschel and (Danny) of St. Helens; dad, Ted of Yuma, Ariz.; and sister, Tracy Shearer and (Scott) of Keizer. He was preceded in death by his mom in 2005.

A celebration of life gathering will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at the Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens.

Karen Lundsten

Feb. 7, 1941-May 7, 2012

Karen (Morrow) Lundsten of Scappoose passed away suddenly on May 7 in Portland. She was 71.

She enjoyed life and her grandchildren after retiring from the city of Portland in 1999.

We will miss her dearly.

She is survived by her daughters, Keri Munson and Kristi Montgomery; five grandchildren; brother, Kenard Morrow; and sister, Kay Stuck.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 25, at Canby Funeral Chapel, 160 S. Grant St., Canby. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Doernbecher Children's Hospital.

Glen Waits

July 2, 1954-May 11, 2012

Glen 'Skully' Allan Waits of Portland passed away May 11. He was 57.

Mr. Waits was born July 2, 1954, in Denver, Colo., to Glen and Barbara (Lane) Waits, and was the eldest of four children.

His family moved to the Scappoose area when he was in 7th grade, where he attended Peterson Grade School and graduated from Scappoose High School with the class of 1973. A good sized kid, he played football as a lineman, lettering all three years he played.

After high school, he went to college to receive his basic skills as a bricklayer. He became a Journeyman Bricklayer with Local #1 and later was an independent contractor working from 1981 until 2011. He also worked on the Alaska Pipeline for several years.

Throughout his life he was a very generous and caring man, many times having others live with him that were less fortunate than he.

He volunteered his skills as a bricklayer, along with his engineering skills, on the St. Helens Amphitheater and set up the planter system at the Oxford House.

He is survived by his children, Brook Waits of Clatskanie, Chance Waits of Rainier and Sidney Waits of Redmond; grandson, Carter James Lee Foster; and siblings, Wanda Fournier of Cathlamet, Wash., Richard Waits of Longview and Tonya Collins of Collinsville, Ill.

A celebration of life gathering will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at Scappoose Foursquare Church, 33404 S.W. JP West Road.
