Team starting to score some points

The St. Helens High girl’s golf team is showing improvement on the course, but hasn’t challenged the league leaders just yet.

The team competed on the Glendoveer West course April 2, taking fifth overall.

Mikela Heimueller filled in for Shelby Edwards, out with an illness, and had one of her best matches.

Kaitlyn Burbank exceeded her personal goal of 20 points under the Stableford system the girls use. McKenzie Schull topped the team points scoring, but wasn’t as high as she might have been as she was still nursing jet lag from a spring break trip that concluded the day before.

Kiwii Huff and Alanis Arias, playing her first 18-hole match, rounded out the varsity.

At Quail Valley this past Tuesday, Arias turned in the day’s highlight, earning a birdie with a chip from 60 yards out. Edwards was still missing from the line-up.

The Lady Lions and the rest of the field struggled on the tough course. Next week they play at equally difficult Chehalem Glenn.
