The Bowmen teams beat Milwaukie to move to 2-0

In other words, the Sherwood High School track and field teams are off to a roaring start to the Northwest Oregon Conference season.

The Bowmen squads each moved to 2-0 by getting wins over Milwaukie in a NWOC dual meet held last Thursday at Sherwood High School.

The Lady Bowmen got their second straight lopsided victory by rolling to an 110-35 win over the Mustangs.

Sherwood senior Elyse Cuthbertson continued her torrid start to the season as, for the third straight meet, she triumphed in all three throwing events.

by: JONATHAN HOUSE - ONE-TWO PUNCH -- Sherwood's Olson Cottle, with teammate Ryan Pierce right behind him, is on his way to victory in the 1,500-meter run in the Bowmen's meet with Milwaukie.Cuthbertson was victorious in the shot put with a mark of 38 feet, 8.5 inches. She won the discus with a throw of 122-8 and she had a winning toss of 118-6 in the javelin.

Junior Emily Johansen also was a three-time winner for the Sherwood girls. Johansen sprinted to victory in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.92 seconds. She triumphed in the 200 in 27.21 and she teamed with freshman Helena Elkins, junior Maddy McSmith and senior Marina Parker to win the 4 x 100 relay in 52.75.

Sherwood junior Madison Budge ran to victory in both distance events. Budge had a winning time of 5:21.83 in the 1,500 and she won the 3,000 with a mark of 11:29.99.

Also for the Lady Bowmen, freshman Lindy Voss won the 800 in 2:46.63, Elkins cleared 4-8 to take first place in the high jump, junior Mikala Otto had a winning distance of 31-11.5 in the triple jump and the team of Bailey Holloway, Sophia Fangon, Kameryn Price and Sam Mckibbon won the 4 x 400 relay in a time of 4:32.45.

by: JONATHAN HOUSE  - THE VICTOR -- Sherwood senior Cole Nixon lets out a yell as he crosses the finish line in the 400-meter dash.The Sherwood boys posted a 93-52 win over Milwaukie for their second conference victory of the season.

Senior Hunter Pfefferkorn was a three-time winner on the day for the Bowmen. He picked up a victory in the 800 in 2:01.07 and he also was a part of Sherwood's two winning relay teams.

In the 4 x 100 relay, Pfefferkorn teamed with freshman Nicholas Hannen, junior Mason Rivers and freshman Ryan Milligan to get a victory in 45.28. In the 4 x 400 relay, the team of sophomore Keaton Flannery, senior Olsen Cottle, senior Nic Clarke and Pfefferkorn had a winning mark of 3:42.36.

Senior Cole Nixon ran to a pair of individual wins for the Bowmen. Nixon sprinted to victory in the 200 in 23.60 and he had a winning time of 52.90 in the 400.

by: JONATHAN HOUSE  - UP AND OVER -- Sherwood's Tyler Thayer was in winning form in the 110-meter high hurdles.Sherwood senior Tyler Thayer won both hurdles events. Thayer triumphed in the 110 high hurdles in 17.71 and he won the 300 intermediate hurdles in 45.68.

Also for the Bowmen, Cottle had a winning time of 4:27.51 in the 1,500, junior Joshua Moats won the 3,000 in 9:50.01, senior Austin Goldstein triumphed in the javelin with a distance of 169-3 and Ben Milligan cleared 6-0 to place first in the high jump.

The Sherwood teams were scheduled to face Rex Putnam in a conference meet Wednesday at Rex Putnam High School. Results from that meet weren't available when The Times went to press.

The Bowmen teams return to conference action Wednesday when they host Wilsonville. Field events are slated to start at 4 p.m. with field events beginning at 4:30 p.m.
