First games of Sherwoods series with St. Helens washed away

SHERWOOD — The Sherwood High School baseball team had the first part of its series with St. Helens washed away due to the rainy weather that hit the area.

But the wet weather seems to be the only thing capable of slowing down the Bowmen of late.

Prior to the scheduled St. Helens series, Sherwood swept a two-game, Northwest Oregon Conference series from Milwaukie, shutting out the Mustangs in each game.

On April 16, the Bowmen posted a 6-0 road win over Milwaukie.

Senior Lucas Johnson pitched the first six innings of the shutout. He gave up three hits while striking out eight and walking one.

Senior Travis Kotowski went 3 for 4 at the plate for the Bowmen with a pair of RBIs. Junior Cameron DuFault doubled, also drove in two runs and scored a run.

On Friday, Sherwood ran to an 18-0 win over the Mustangs in a conference contest played at Sherwood High School.

Junior Zak Taylor had a big game for the Bowmen in that victory. Taylor pitched the first five innings of the contest, giving up three hits while striking out eight and walking none. Taylor also went 2 for 3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

Sophomore Adley Rutschman drove in three runs and scored two. DuFault and senior Riley Moore each plated a pair of runs.

With the two wins, Sherwood moved to 5-1 in NWOC play, putting the Bowmen alone atop the league standings, while also improving to 8-6 on the season.

Today (Thursday), the Bowmen are scheduled to complete a suspended game against St. Helens (Sherwood led 3-0 going into the fifth inning), and then the teams will turn right around and play their game that was postponed on Wednesday. The action is set to start at 5 p.m. at Wilsonville High School.

On Friday, the teams will finish their series with a 4:30 p.m. game at St. Helens High School.

On Tuesday, Sherwood will open a three-game series with Liberty with a 4:30 p.m. contest at Sherwood High School.
