Bill McKibben, a prominent environmental writer and climate action activist, is coming to Portland on Nov. 8 as part of a 21-city “Do the Math” tour.

McKibben founded the group that fights to avert climate change.

His Do the Math tour will call attention to continuing plans to burn fossil fuels beyond the tipping point to prevent catastrophic global warming.

Portland is the second leg of his cross-country bus tour.

The local show starts at 7 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 1126 S.W. Park Ave., in downtown Portland.

It’s being billed as a “part TED-talk, part revival meeting,” with other speakers and musicians, and a video plea from Archbishop Desmond Tutu urging people to join a new movement inspired by the divestment effort that helped end apartheid. To buy tickets and more information:
