Photo Credit: PHOTO COURTESY OF SWARM PORTLAND - Our food options would be limited if it wasn't for bees to pollinate crops. What would life be like without bees?

Activists dressed in bee costumes will make that point in an event marking National Honey Bee Day this Saturday at Portland Farmers Market.

Dubbed Swarm Portland, the event includes a Bike for Bees ride and a “Bee Die In” to call attention to Oregon’s bee die-offs, which have been linked to pesticides. There also will be displays of two picnics, one with bees and one if there were no bees. Swarm Portland takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, at the farmers market on the Park Blocks near Portland State University and Southwest Hall Street.
