Gerens Farm Supply saw many faces at its annual customer and community appreciation event

For seven years, Geren’s Farm Supply has been inviting animals of all shapes and sizes and their owners to come enjoy treats and a free picture with Santa.

On Saturday, Dec. 14, the business at 33680 S.E. Kelso Road in Boring once again welcomed customers and community to its annual appreciation event.

This year, the event seemed a lot busier in terms of kids coming to see Santa, said Roz Rushing, an employee and daughter of the owners.

“I think social networking really helped to spread the word,” she said.

Geren’s supplied cookies, beverages, pulled-pork sandwiches and chips. There was also face painting available for those waiting in line to see Santa.

Once children and animals alike sat with Santa and got their photo snapped, he offered treats for all. Children received goodie bags full of candy and small toys from his sleigh, and four-legged friends got chew POST PHOTO: KYLIE WRAY - Gerens resident cats, Emma and Earl, were not too happy about the masses of visitors. They found places up high to settle where they could still survey the festivities. Earl was on watch at the top of a glass jewelry case.

Geren’s saw faces both new and returning. Every year, a local mini-horse drops in to get his photo with Santa, and a client of Geren’s who raises goats brought in two of her goats as well.

One house of returning customers brought the newest addition to their family: a baby tortoise. The family wanted to start documenting his growth from the beginning, as he will grow to be quite large. They plan to return next year as well.

The line was long and slobber was flying, but Geren’s was full of happy customers.

“It’s a lot of fun to host every year,” Rushing said. “And we love doing it.”
