Hood River County Sheriff's, Portland FBI agents lodge five men at NORCOR on child sex charges

A sting operation conducted by Hood River County sheriff's Deputies and members of the Portland FBI's Child Exploitation Task Force has led to the arrest of Rhododendron resident John Grover Morgan III, 30, and four others on child sex charges.

The men were arrested by the task force on July 17 on accusations of attempting to commit sex acts with children. Suspects ranged in age from 16 to 44 years old.

Morgan has been released from the Northern Oregon Regional Correctional Facility in the Dalles, pending a plea hearing scheduled for Aug. 6 in Hood River County Circuit Court.

• Hood River man Brandon David Backman, 44, was arrested for first-degree online sexual corruption of a child.

• Francisco Ramirez Rendon, 27, of The Dalles, was arrested for first-degree online sexual corruption of a child.

• Daniel Garcia, 23, of The Dalles, was arrested for first-degree online sexual corruption of a child and luring a minor .

• And a 16-year-old boy from White Salmon, Wash., was arrested for first-degree attempted sodomy.

According to a statement from the Hood River County Sheriff's Office, "Online sexual corruption in the first degree is a Class B felony in Oregon and requires that a person knowingly uses an online communication to solicit a child to engage in sexual contact or sexually explicit conduct and intentionally takes a substantial step toward physically meeting with or encountering a child."

Portland FBI's Child Exploitation Task Force consists of FBI agents and task force officers from the Beaverton Police Department, the Portland Police Bureau, the Tigard Police Department, the Hillsboro Police Department, and the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
