Animated film showing battle to overcome evil is coming to Sandy

by: CONTRIBUTED PHOTO - Jack Frost and Toothiana are two of the imaginative characters in the animated movie, created last year by DreamWorks, that has won seven awards and has been nominated for 20 other awards including a Golden Globe.A classic tale of good vs. evil is waiting for kids and adults at dusk Saturday, Aug. 24, to the Dale Nicholls Main Stage at Meinig Park.

“Rise of the Guardians,” a 97-minute animated film that was released last Thanksgiving, is full of adventure but without the kind of violence kids shouldn’t see.

This global movie depicts an evil spirit that launches an assault on Earth, but the immortal Guardians join forces to protect the hopes, beliefs, innocence and imaginations of children.

Through the actions in this movie, especially when children’s dreams become nightmares, it is demonstrated that all children need to overcome evil is a little faith.

Because it is a tale of the global battle against evil, there is animated violence throughout the film, but it isn’t too intense and is suitable for most audiences.

The PG film has won seven awards from different organizations in categories such as best children’s film, best animation, best film music, best animated effects and best storyboarding in an animated feature.

The film also was nominated for 20 separate awards, including a Golden Globe for best edited animated feature.

The city of Sandy and some of its financial partners have been providing feature-length movies for local families in Meinig Park every Saturday in August, including one more on Aug. 31.

Bring blankets or low-back lawn chairs. The movie begins at dusk, and Meinig Park is behind Sandy City Hall at 39250 Pioneer Blvd.
