Sandy High School holds canned food drive

Sandy High School is holding its annual canned food drive for the Kiwanis Christmas Basket program starting Monday, Dec. 3, and ending Friday, Dec. 14. Community members can drop off cans at collection bins at Ever Fresh, Geren’s, Johnson’s RV, VFW Outpost, City Hall, Grocery Outlet, Clackamas Federal Credit Union, Mount Hood Athletic Club, the Sandy Ford dealership, Mt. Moka and Les Schwab. The leadership class will collect cans from houses around Sandy beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8.

A community dodge ball tournament will be held from 3-4:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 14, at Sandy High School. The entry fee is three cans per team, and five to eight people can be on each team. The two finalists will compete at the halftime show of the boys basketball game that same day.

The Kiwanis Christmas Basket program is a 57-year tradition that brings schools, youth organizations, businesses and citizens together to collect food and gifts for families in need.

Sandy’s fire department is processing family applications from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays through Dec. 17 at the Sandy station, 17460 Bruins St.

MHAC volleyball club hosts middle school dance

The Mount Hood Athletic Club volleyball club is hosting a Winter Wonderland Middle School Dance from 6-9 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7, at Mount Hood Athletic Club, 37095 Highway 26, Sandy. Tickets cost $5 before Wednesday, Dec. 5 and $8 at the door. The dance is open to grades sixth through eighth. There will be a DJ and refreshments available to purchase. Kids must have student ID and there will be no re-entry to the dance. All proceeds will benefit the Mount Hood Athletic Club volleyball club. For more information, call 503-826-0565.

Sandy High ski team hosts viewing of Warren Miller movie

The Sandy High School ski team is hosting a viewing of the newest Warren Miller movie “Flow State,” at 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7 and 8 at Sandy High School. Tickets cost $20 and some of the proceeds will help the Sandy ski team. Tickets are only available for purchase online through or through the Sandy High School home page. Seating is limited and there will be raffle tickets sold for $5.
