The Mt. Hood CC baseball team picked up a 1-0 win over Tacoma to open the Northwest Community College championship tournament Friday. Shea Coates hit a single to center field to bring in Hunter Weiss in the first inning for what proved to be the game’s only run. Mt. Hood pitcher Jon Bjorklund went the distance, scattering nine hits and striking out four. The Saints escaped a bases-loaded threat in the third inning.

Mt. Hood dropped out of the double-elimination tournament with a 3-0 loss to Everett and a 7-3 loss to Bellevue.

Rattie leads playoff scorers

Portland’s Ty Rattie was the top scorer through the CHL playoffs with 36 points, while teammate Nic Petan came in second with 28 points. Winterhawks goalie Mac Carruth led in Goals Against Average with a 1.63 during the team’s run to the Memorial Cup final.
