After letting the Cardinals back into the game, the Pioneers go on an 8-0 run in overtime to seal the win

SANDY POST: MATT RAWLINGS - Sandy's Wyatt Fisher makes a move in the post in Sandy's 76-74 win over Corbett.

It was a wild end to the summer season for both the Sandy and Corbett boys' basketball teams.

Dylan Oliver led Corbett with a game-high 29 points, but it wasn't enough as the Pioneers prevailed with a 76-74 overtime victory at Sandy High School on Wednesday night.

"Corbett played their butts off, which was really good for us. I thought we played really well in spurts and we got the chance to play a lot of different kids and get them used to varsity intensity," Sandy head coach Jason Maki said.

For the Cardinals, it was a disappointing end to what has been a spectacular summer season. After winning only four games last season, Corbett won 21 out of their 26 summer league games. Corbett head coach Don Carter is hoping that this summer is a sign for things to come next winter.

"We have never had a summer team like this in the last four years...I am really excited and looking forward to next year. The guys we have play well as a team, and that's the huge thing," Carter said. We're not reliant on individuals. We have seven solid guys who can go out and play well together."

Sandy's Wyatt Fisher led the Pioneers with 25 points. Last season, Fisher was at times overshadowed by the senior-heavy Sandy squad. Next season, Fisher expects to take on a much bigger role, not only in the scoring department, but also in the leadership department.

"It's definitely different. I feel like I have taken kind of a role as a teacher now that we have younger guys. It demands me to step up and step into my role as a leader," Fisher said.
