SANDY — Parkrose came into their game with Sandy undefeated and ranked in the top 10 in state.

And they showed why that was the case against the Pioneers on Wednesday night.

The Broncos got three goals from senior forward Noah Addie as Parkrose blanked the Sandy 3-0 to give the Pioneers their second loss in Northwest Oregon Conference play.

"We're coming out very timid in the beginning of games," Sandy forward Allan Lainez said. "We didn't attack tonight. We kind of just sat back and were waiting to see what (Parkrose) would do."

Sandy came into the game shorthanded with team captain Julian Carpenter on the shelf after suffering an injury against Hillsboro. The Pioneers also lost defenseman Ryan Escareno five minutes into the game, which really threw a wrench into the Sandy's game plan.

"Losing (Escareno and Carpenter) was enormous. It went from a one-to-two goal game to a three-to-five goal game because of that," Sandy head coach Garet Luebbert said. "You take those guys out of there...It made us scramble a little bit. It was pretty obvious that was not our style of soccer. That is not the way we want to play."

Lainez was playing hurt, along with Kevin Velasco and Moises Perez, to further hinder the Sandy attack. With Sandy as banged up as they were, Luebbert was pleased with the effort that his team put forth.

"I am really happy with what I saw from the guys. For me, the biggest thing is that they put forth good effort and be good teammates. I think that was on display tonight," Luebbert said. "I am disappointed in the result, but we knew that Parkrose is a really good team and that we are obviously not at full strength."
