OREGON CITY — The Mt. Hood Community College women's basketball team almost played spoiled at the Clackamas Thanksgiving tournament Saturday night before falling 71-68 in a game that went to the buzzer.

Midway through the fourth quarter, the Saints found themselves up six with a chance to stretch the margin. Mt. Hood got four cracks at the basket on a single possession, but couldn't get the ball through the net.

Clackamas came back with four straight free throws at the other end, setting the stage for a wild finish over the final three minutes.

Nicole Hermosillo drove the right side for a layup and the winning points with 43.9 seconds left.

Mt. Hood forced a turnover and had a chance for the lead with 11.3 seconds left, but the Saints barely got across half court when a double team popped the ball loose, and Hermosillo dived to the floor for the steal.

The Saints got one final chance to send the game to overtime, but Hermosillo blocked a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

The tournament wraps up Sunday with Mt. Hood playing Olympic at 12 p.m., while Clackamas takes on Umpqua at 2 p.m.
