Coos Bay man attracts 11 calls to police

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - OliverComplaints of reckless driving followed a Coos Bay man from Salem to Tualatin's city limits, where he was finally arrested Wednesday.

Mathew Brian Oliver, 35, was the subject of 11 calls to law enforcement agencies as he drove his light blue Chevrolet pickup truck on Interstate-5. The first complaint of suspicious driving was logged at 11:48 a.m., with callers describing Oliver as driving at excessive speeds and using freeway shoulders to pass other motorists – including a Eugene police detective in an unmarked vehicle in Woodburn.

The detective pulled Oliver over near milepost 292, just outside of Tualatin.

Oliver was arrested for driving under the influence and charged with reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person.

Oliver was later charged with criminal mischief in the second degree after he allegedly kicked a rear door of the patrol vehicle used to transport him to Washington County Jail, where he is being lodged.

Oregon State Police and the Eugene Police Department worked together to apprehend the suspect. Both agencies thanked the citizens who contacted law enforcement to report the erratic driving.
