Tualatin Police say officers performed 40 traffic stops during a four-hour traffic enforcement operation on April 2.

The city-wide enforcement blitz ran from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and targeted drivers who were using cellphones while driving, speeding, making unsafe or unsignaled lane changes, misusing left-turn lanes or were not wearing a seatbelt.

According to Jennifer Massey, a Tualatin Police spokeswoman, the focus of the sting was to educate the public about proper driving.

"Tualatin Police encourage drivers to remain vigilant and to obey Oregon traffic laws," Massey said.

Officers made 40 traffic stops, Massey said. In total, officers issued 27 citations and 13 warnings.

Tigard and Sherwood police assisted in the traffic detail.
