Synergy Dance Team, a group comprised of dancers from Twality, Hazelbrook and Fowler middle schools, brought home a first-place trophy from the Oregon Junior Dance Team Championship competition on April 5.

This is the third year in a row that Synergy has earned the state championship in the Large Middle School Division.

The competition was held at Clackamas Community College. Team members Madison Heniff and Olivia Sammond also garnered individual all-star awards, and Abby Lam placed in the top 10 for drill.

Synergy was founded in 2009 as a way to offer dance to middle school students across the area.

"This team is about so much more than dance," said head coach Tracy Rutten. "These girls have developed strong bonds with each other and often describe their fellow teammates as sisters and a second family."

Auditions for the 2014-15 season will be held May 20-22 at Twality Middle School and are open for any student in the Tigard-Tualatin School District.

A mandatory informational parent meeting will be held on Monday, May 19.
