UPDATE: The Washington County Sheriff's Office has identified the man as a Sherwood resident.

COURTESY OF THE WASHINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - An as-yet unidentified man died Saturday evening after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing Highway 99W at Fischer Road, just outside King City.A man running across Highway 99W at Fischer Road near King City was struck and killed by a pickup truck traveling northbound late Saturday evening, Nov. 4, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office said Peter Emery, 27, apparently ran across the highway while northbound traffic had a green light. One vehicle was able to brake and avoid hitting him. A second vehicle, the pickup truck, collided with him, causing fatal injuries.

A helicopter was dispatched to the scene for a medical evacuation, but Emery died prior to being transported, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies were called out to the crash at about 7:42 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators were not able to immediately identify the crash victim as Emery, who resided in Sherwood. He was ultimately identified using fingerprint forensics, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The driver of the pickup remained at the scene and has been cooperating with investigators, according to the Sheriff's Office.
