Saturday night will get smoother as five-time Grammy Award winner Robert Cray takes the stage as the headliner in Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District’s fourth annual Groovin’ on the Grass concert.

Cray and his band will entertain the audience at the Howard M. Terpenning Recreation Complex, 15707 S.W. Walker Road, in Beaverton.

Cray, a rock and blues icon and Blues Hall of Famer, will join Shemekia Copeland to comprise a knockout twin bill from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Gates open at 4 p.m.

Portland-based singer-songwriter Thad Beckman will open the show.

Groovin’ on the Grass unites music lovers for a night out at the park district’s main campus. Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase from multiple on-site vendors, including event sponsor Golden Valley Brewery and Restaurant. You can also bring your own picnic.

General admission is $5 for this outdoor show; children ages 4 and younger get in free.

“We are excited to showcase a wide variety of musical styles and talents this year, highlighted by a great Groovin’ on the Grass lineup,” said Deb Fife, THPRD volunteer coordinator and organizer of the summer Concert and Theater in the Park series.

Groovin’ on the Grass draws thousands of people each year. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and stake out your favorite spot on the grass.
