SALEM — The Tigard and Sherwood high school cross country teams turned in strong performances at the Star City XClassic, held Oct. 3 at Corban University.

Tigard claimed first place in the boys team standings at the 13-school event with 52 points. The Sherwood boys were fourth with 119 points.

Sophomore John Caufield helped lead the Tigers to the team title. He placed seventh individually with a time of 18 minutes and 20 seconds for the 5,000-meter race.

Tigard junior Devin Roche was ninth with a mark of 18:31 and junior Nathanael Ditton was 11th at 18:34.

Senior Cody Thompson paced the Sherwood boys. He was fourth with a mark of 18:00.

In girls competition, Sherwood placed second in the team standings with 55 points, finishing behind only Marist, which had a score of 43. The Tigard girls were third with a score of 77.

Freshman Haley Howe led the way for the Lady Bowmen. She ran to fourth place in a time of 21:38. Sherwood senior Devon Greene was ninth at 22:17 and junior Madison Budge was 11th at 22:24.

Tigard sophomore Elizabeth Dean was third in the race with a mark of 21:29. Tiger sophomore Hannaly Duff-McGaughey was eighth with a time of 22:05.
