Horizon also beats Willamina to stay perfect in WVL play

TUALATIN — Another strong West Valley League foe, another big win for the Horizon Christian High School boys basketball team.

The Hawks strengthened their grip on the top spot in the WVL stands by rolling to a 69-44 win over Westside Christian in a league contest played Jan. 16 at Horizon Christian.

With the victory, the Hawks moved to 6-0 in league play and to 13-1 on the season at that point. Westside Christian moved to 4-2 in league play and to 12-4 on the season at that point with the setback.

Senior post Michael Loomis led the way for the Hawks in the victory. Loomis scored a game-high 37 points on a 14-for-25 shooting night from the field. He made three three-point baskets and also pulled down six rebounds.

Senior Calvin Anderson added 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Junior Parker Belan had a team-high nine rebounds and sophomore guard Trent Pihas had four assists and three steals.

The Hawks followed up the victory by scoring a 96-52 win over Willamina in league game played Friday at Willamina High School.

Horizon Christian was slated to host Gervais in a league game on Wednesday. Results of that game weren’t available when The Times went to press.

The Hawks will be back in action Friday when they host Amity in a league game starting at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Horizon will meet Cascade Christian in a non-league game scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. at NW Christian University in Eugene.

The Hawks will be back at home Monday to face Sheridan in a 7:30 p.m. league tilt.
