ST. HELENS — The Sherwood wrestling team was absolutely perfect.

And it didn’t take the Bowmen long to reach perfection.

Sherwood, thanks to seven pins and seven forfeit victories, sprinted to an 84-0 win over St. Helens in a Northwest Oregon Conference dual match held last Thursday at St. Helens High School.

With the victory, the Bowmen improved to 5-1 in NWOC matches, keeping them tied with Liberty for second place in the league standings. St. Helens dropped to 0-6 in league matches with the loss.

Of Sherwood’s seven pins on the night, five came in the first round.

Bowmen freshman Jessie Hatfield had the quickest victory of the night, as he pinned St. Helens’ Cedric Walters in 25 seconds in the 113-pound match.

Sherwood senior Evan Castillo picked up his win almost as fast, as he defeated Brandon Cupp in 0:39 in the 145-pound match.

At 120 pounds, Sherwood sophomore Alex Vazquez pinned Jose Silva in 0:53. Another Bowmen sophomore, Riley Castillo won by fall against Mike Bowen in 3:50 at 132 pounds.

In the 138-pound match Sherwood junior Garrett Heckenberg pinned Jacob Cottmann in 2:42. At 152 pounds, Sherwood junior Nic Clarke defeated John Luttrell in 1:56 and, at 160 pounds, Sherwood junior Andrew Rice pinned Andrew Orr in 1:26.

Getting forfeit wins for Sherwood were sophomore Tristan Bishop (106 pounds), sophomore Michael Coulter (126), senior James Musser (170), junior Corey Keohane (182), junior Ryan Jurgens (195), junior Martin Layna (220) and sophomore Joe Brookhouse (285).

The Bowmen will finish their regular-season dual meet schedule tonight (Thursday) when they wrestle at Liberty at 7 p.m.
