The Sherwood girls dominate in the event at St. Helens

ST. HELENS — The Sherwood High School cross country teams turned in impressive performance at a four-way Northwest Oregon Conference meet held Sept. 25 at McCormick Park in St. Helens.

The Sherwood girls had the top six finishers in the 5,000-meter varsity girls race, which also included runners from St. Helens, Rex Putnam and Milwaukie.

Sherwood junior Madison Budge won the race in a time of 21 minutes and 13 seconds. Lady Bowmen senior Avery Rosenbalm was close behind in second place with a mark of 21:17 and junior Bridgett Palmer was third at 21:20.

Also for the Sherwood girls, senior Samantha Steward was fourth at 21:31, junior Molly Fettig was fifth at 22:14 and junior Morgan Lite was sixth at 22:31.

For the Sherwood boys, senior Ryan Pierce ran to second place in a time of 16:58. He was followed by teammate Joshua Moats, who was third at 17:48.

Also for the Sherwood boys, senior Olsen Cottle was sixth at 17:58, junior Connor McLaughlin was seventh at 18:29, junior Matthew Brooks was eighth at 18:31, sophomore Ryan Chidlaw was 12th at 18:49 and sophomore Andrew Peters was 15th at 19:01.

The Sherwood teams will next be in action at the Champoeg Invitational, which will be held Saturday at Champoeg State Park in Newberg. The varsity girls race will be held at 1:30 p.m. with the varsity boys event to follow at 2 p.m.
