The Tigers battle hard against in the Three Rivers League meet wit Canby and Lakeridge

LAKE OSWEGO — The Tigard High School girls cross country team kept it close, the but the Tigers came out on the short end of a Three Rivers League double dual cross country meet.

The Tigers fell 21-36 to Canby, and they lost 22-36 to Lakeridge, in a league event held Sept. 27 at Lakeridge High School.

With the losses, the Tigard girls moved to 1-5 in league dual meets.

Sophomore Elizabeth Brands led the way for Tigard at the meet. She finished in fifth place with a time of 22 minutes, 37.5 seconds for the 5,000-meter event. Senior Ashley Belden finished right behind her in sixth place, at 22:46.5.

Also for the Tigers, sophomore Sophie Brands was 12th at 23:37.7, sophomore Molly Kerns was 16th at 24:13.0, senior Sara Presley was 18th at 24:25.7, sophomore Taylor Alderman was 22nd at 24:53.0 and freshman Isabelle Ford was 23rd at 25:03.6.

Canby sophomore Izabela Kacalek won the girls race in a time of 20:11.3.

The Tigard boys lost 22-35 to Canby and 16-42 against Lakeridge at last week's meet. With the losses, the Tigers moved to 1-5 in league meets.

Junior Cole Grieb paced the Tigers at last week's meet. He finished in seventh place in a time of 17:59.3. Tigard senior Chase Pettibone was close behind in ninth place, with a mark of 18:07.0.

Also for the Tigers, senior Elliot Yake was 15th at 18:50.0, freshman Abdirahim Mohamoud was 18th at 19:23.8, senior Enrique Noyes was 19th at 19:33.6, freshman Mitchell Ervin was 20th at 19:48.3 and junior Sullivan Bailey-Darland was 21st at 19:49.0.

Canby junior Cole Thomas won the boys race in a time of 16:56.5.

The Tiger teams will be back in action Friday, when they run at The Fast & Flat Invitational, which will be held at Joe Dancer Park in McMinnville. The varsity girls race starts at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity boys will begin at 5 p.m.

Tigard returns to TRL action on Wednesday, when it faces Sherwood and St. Mary's Academy (girls only) in a league double dual meet to be held at Westmoreland Park.
