The Tigers bounce back strong to get victories in their last two games at the tournament

PORTLAND — The Tigard High School girls basketball team didn't get off to a winning start, but the Tigers definitely finished strong during play at the inaugural Portland Interscholastic League Holiday Classic, held last Thursday through Saturday at Franklin High School.

Tigard, after falling 40-34 to Camas, Wash., in a tourney opener last Wednesday, bounced back strong to defeat South Medford 64-37 in tourney play on Friday and then downed Grant 47-36 in a tourney finale on Saturday.

With the 2-1 mark at the tournament, the Tigers upped their overall season record to 7-3.

In last Thursday's tournament opener with Camas, junior Paige LaFountain led the way for Tigard with 11 points. Junior guard Campbell Gray added 10.

In Friday's victory, Gray poured in 21 points and LaFountain had 15. Sophomore Kennedy Brown and senior Gabby McGaughey each added seven points for Tigard in that game.

In Saturday's tourney tilt, LaFountain scored 17 points and Gray had 15.

Gray was named to the All-Tournament team.

Tigard, which is 2-0 in Three Rivers League play, will be back in action on Wednesday, when it hosts West Linn, which is also 2-0 in TRL games, and 6-0 overall through Monday, in a league contest starting at 7 p.m. at Tigard High School.
