Tigard will open the Class 6A state playoffs by hosting Barlow in a first-round game Monday

TIGARD — The Tigard High School softball team tuned up for the Class 6A state playoffs by getting a pair of shutout wins.

On Friday, the Tigers defeated Sherwood 10-0, in five innings, in a Three Rivers League finale played at Sherwood High School. On Tuesday, Tigard got a 5-0 win over Sunset in a non-league contest played at Tigard High School.

With the two wins, Tigard, the No. 11 team in the final OSAA power rankings and the No. 2 team out of the Three Rivers League at 11-3, finished regular-season play at 22-4.

The Tigers will next open postseason play on Monday, when they host Forest Grove in a Class 6A state playoff first-round contest set to start at 5 p.m. at Tigard High School. Forest Grove, the No. 5 team out of the Greater Valley Conference, and the No. 24 team in the power rankings, is 13-12 on the season.

In the win over Sherwood, freshman Sophia vanderSommen hit a home run. Junior Maddie Hoover went 3 for 3 at the plate with a double, three runs scored and an RBI. Sophomore Emily Paulson went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Senior Ashley Davis went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and four RBIs.

Davis also pitched four no-hit, shutout innings, striking out eight batters while walking none.

In the win over Sunset, vanderSommen pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits, while striking out four and walking two.

Sophomore Lexi Klum went 2 for 3 at the plate with a run scored. Hoover went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Tigard, if it wins its state playoff opener with Forest Grove on Monday, will either host Wilson or travel to Glencoe for a state playoff second-round game on Wednesday.
