A Portland-area man died this weekend following a Saturday evening crash on Highway 99E south of Canby.

The victim, Layne Jason Iffert, 21, of southeast Portland, died Sunday morning in Oregon Health & Science University hospital where he was flown by air ambulance the evening before.

The Oregon State Police said about 8:06 p.m. Iffert’s northbound 2002 Subaru Legacy four-door station wagon crossed into the southbound lanes near milepost 23. His vehicle collided with two southbound vehicles and overturned in a ditch on the west side of the highway.

The other two drivers were Merrill Wayne Ralsten Jr., 54, of Woodinville, Wash., and Steve A. Koutny, 57, of Hubbard. Ralsten was not injured. Koutny was treated for minor injuries at Legacy Meridian Park Hospital in Tualatin.

The OSP was assisted at the scene by the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Canby Police Department, Life Flight, AMR ambulance and ODOT.
