Juan Morales was hired by Woodburn Police Department prior to completion of police training

COURTESY PHOTO: CITY OF WOODBURN - Woodburn police Chief Jim Ferraris congratulates Juan Morales, WPD's newest officer, on graduating from the police academy May 11.Juan Morales, of the Woodburn Police Department, graduated on Friday from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) in Salem with the 377th Basic Police Class.

The Basic Police Class is 16 weeks in length and includes dozens of training areas including survival skills, firearms, emergency vehicle operations, ethics, cultural diversity, problem solving, community policing, elder abuse, drug recognition and dozens of other subjects.

Chief Jon Sassaman, of the Corvallis Police Department, was guest speaker at the graduation.

Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Lorena Akerman also graduated with the class.
