COURTESY PHOTO - Kris SalleeAurora resident and two-term city councilor Kris Sallee announced on June 9 that she is running for mayor of Aurora.

Sallee has previously served on the City of Aurora Planning and Budget Committees and has been elected twice to the City Council. Kris is a Licensed Health Insurance Agent for HealthMarkets Insurance and has previously worked for Cambia Health Solutions and Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield.

"The City of Aurora is at a crossroads," Sallee said, during her campaign announcement.

"Will we continue to retain our small town qualities and encourage smart development that is an asset to our community, or will we allow outside interests to direct our future? I want to keep Aurora the place that we all love," Sallee said.

Sallee said she wants to engage Aurora citizens in a conversation about the future.

"I have learned much by listening to my neighbors about the challenges Aurora faces from growth and the economic aspirations of outsiders. As Mayor, I will listen to local citizens carefully and then act to implement a shared vision of how Aurora can retain its livability and foster appropriate growth," Sallee said.

Sallee plans a campaign kickoff on Saturday at Aurora City Park from 4-6 p.m., featuring food and the live music of "The Whiskey Darlings". Aurora residents are invited to attend this family-friendly event.

Current Aurora Mayor Bill Graupp is up for re-election this fall.
