by: KRISTEN FEUZ - Workers at Republic Services, Tony Schlechter (left) and driver Jerry Hettwer helped make Mason DeBruyn's fifth birthday special by giving him a tour of town in a truck and touring the facility on June 23.“If someone wants to come see the trucks, we always try to make that happen,” Tony Schlechter, operations supervisor, said. “It’s part of our job of keeping customers happy.”

On June 23, Mason got a certificate with the Republic Services letterhead and toured the entire facility, including where the trucks are made and where containers are repaired. The day was capped off with a 15 minute ride around his grandparents’ neighborhood, where he got to collect their trash.

“Mason said, ‘This is just like Toy Story!’” Feuz said. “It’s been an obsession of his since he was 2.”

She added she was impressed with the Republic Services staff.

“They were fantastic,”?she said. “They were so professional and everybody was so happy to help. Even the operations manager came out and shook his hand. The whole team was great.”
