Special Events

Salem Digital Photographers ShowNoon to 3 p.m. Starting July 2. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and on Saturday, July 7 is a reception open to the public to meet the photographers. This annual show is at the Woodburn Art Center, 2551 N. Boones Ferry Rd.

MOUNT ANGEL FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION AND PARADE11 a.m. July 4. Parade begins at JFK High School at 11 a.m. The parade route follows Marquam to Birch to Taylor to Garfield, disbanding on the south end of Garfield. Fireworks will follow in the evening around 10 p.m., and they will be displayed over the athletic fields between the high school and middle school. The Marion County Citizens Band will be back by popular demand.

Gervais Fourth of July CelebrationNoon July 4. Starting with a parade at noon, followed by the festival and concludes with fireworks at dusk. The festival will have kid's games section, food vendors, arts and crafts, and the bands from the parade and high energy DJ Doc Titus in downtown Gervais.

Woodburn's Fourth of July Celebration5:30 p.m. July 4. Celebrate Independence Day at Woodburn's Centennial Park, 900 Parr Road. Enjoy a night of family activities, musical entertainment, great food and fireworks.

Show and Shine Car Show10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 8. Free admission, open to the public. The KISN GOOD GUYS street band will have '50s and '60s music all day. A $15 entry fee for car entries qualifies entrants for awards, goodie bags and door prizes. Entry setup starts at 7 a.m. with coffee and donuts. Registration and information is available at showandshinewoodburnestatesgolf.com. The event is at Woodburn Estates & Golf parking lot, 1776 Country Club Road.

Woodburn Music in the Park 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays starting July 10. Celtic rock music will be performed by St. James Gate on July 10 outside at the Woodburn Public Library, 280 Garfield St., plan to picnic. There will be food for sale at 6 p.m.

Summer Concert at the Estates3 p.m. July 22 and Aug. 12. July 22 features "50 Songs by Ray Hanna." Ray takes a nostalgic walk down memory lane telling stories and performing hit music from the 1930s to the present. Aug. 12, "Kathy Boyd and Phoenix Rising" will perform the best of bluegrass in a program of original country "mountain" music. There is no fee, but donations will be accepted. All concerts are at Woodburn Estates, 1776 Country Club Road, Woodburn.

Woodburn High School 40 Year Reunion — 6 p.m. July 21. The class of 1978 will have its 40th reunion dinner at the Corner Loft, 589 N. Front St., in Woodburn. Woodburn High School 50 Year Reunion — 4 p.m. Sept. 8. The class of 1968 will hold its 50th reunion for an evening of food and fun. Trips & Tours

Landmarks of the Gorge Cruise — 8:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 22. Cruise on the "Historic Columbia River Scenic Waterway" on the Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler, Cascade Locks. Glide past such natural and historic landmarks as Multnomah Falls, Beacon Rock, Bonneville Locks and Dam, and many others. Register by Aug. 6. Wise Words & Wine with Women of Hope 6 to 8:30 p.m. July 17. Spend an evening with influential women in agriculture. Author Charlotte Smith and blogger Brenda Frketich will be sharing their thoughts in support of scholarships for women's education. This is a fundraiser for Chapter J, Woodburn, of P.E.O. International. The funds raised will be given to local graduating women from Woodburn, St. Paul or North Marion high schools. Woodburn Senior Center — They need funding! They now have a GoFundMe page at: www.gofundme.com/Woodburn-senior-center. Please consider a donation that will help fund our activities and future growth. The seniors enjoy weekly Wednesday lunches and free coffee, bingo and canasta, exercise and craft classes, visits from health providers, and more. Your donations make these programs possible, they also accept walk-in donations. Located at 700 N. Cascade Drive in Woodburn, the entrance is on the south side of the building.

Classes

Oil Painting Classes10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 13 & 21. Join instructor Judy Stubb, a certified Bob Ross instructor, to create an oil painting, "Dolphin with Calf" on July 13 and "Letty's Angel" on July 21. For experienced and inexperienced oil painters. Watercolor Class9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 28. All levels are welcome in this class led by watercolorist and mixed media artist, Sharla Sevy. The painting is Field of Flowers: "Dahlias." Participants should bring two "11x14" sheets of 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper "stretched." Fee for the class is $60. Bring a lunch or snack. Mermaid, Merman & Aquatic Creatures DayNoon to 2 p.m. July 9. Fun costume day, any swimmer dressed up as a mermaid, merman or aquatic creature can swim at no charge if you come in between noon and 2 p.m. The top costume will receive a fun prize. Woodburn Aquatic Center, 190 Oak St. 503-981-7946.

Summer Kids Art ClasseS 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays July 10-Aug. 14. On Tuesdays only, Artist Richard Fenwick will teach art techniques with wet and dry media. Summer Lego Robotic Camps — These July Lego Camps are great summer learning by using hands on problem solving and imagination. Intro STEM Camp (Ages 5-7): 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 16-20. STEM Challenge (Age 8-11): 2 to 5 p.m. July 16-20. Girl Powered Engineering (Ages 6-10): 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 30-Aug. 3. Nijaneering (Ages 6-10): 2 to 5 p.m. July 30-Aug. 3. Creative Clay Camp #21 to 3 p.m. July 18- 20. Learn to a make a custom cereal bowl. Ceramic artist Ellen Weinert will teach kids to make a large cereal bowl and embellish it with superheroes, flowers or whatever you can imagine during this 3-day camp.
