No. 1 Trojans make short work of No. 6 Bulldogs in matchup of 2A state championship contenders

PHIL HAWKINS - Kennedy junior Sophia Carley spikes the ball for a point in the Trojans' 3-0 win over Culver. The Kennedy volleyball team claimed the opening salvo in the clash between two of the top 2A teams in the state when the No. 1 Trojans bested the No. 6 Culver Bulldogs 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-13) on Oct. 2.

It was the first meeting between the two conference rivals, who finished second and third in the state championship tournament a year ago and have championship aspirations this year.

The two teams entered the competition unbeaten in league play, but the Trojans were quick to assert their dominance, winning in three sets to remain undefeated in the Tri-River Conference. Kennedy added a pair of league victories over Sheridan and Colton on Thursday to improve its record to 12-0 to go with a 21-1 record overall.

The Trojans and Bulldogs meet again this week on the other side of the mountains at Culver High School on Wednesday.
