Friends of McLean Park and House host second annual murder mystery dinner

by: SUBMITTED - The New Century Players will perform this year's murder mystery dinner fundraiser at the McLean House.Get out your magnifying glass and get ready to look for clues at the second annual McLean House murder mystery dinner.

The McLean House is a historic home in West Linn owned by the city and operated under the department of parks and recreation. The three-story, 17-room home sits on the Willamette River and was built in 1927. Since then, it has been restored and is used for special events.

This year, the Friends of McLean Park and House organization is holding a murder mystery dinner to raise funds to build a patio shelter that can be used during inclement weather for events. The shelter will provide another meeting place for small groups.

According to Friends of McLean Park and House President of the Board of Directors Mike Watters, the proposed shelter could seat up to 100 people and will be in a carriage house-style that will complement the style of the house.

The dinner will be Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. at the house. The cost is $50 and includes a catered meal. There will also be a silent auction and a no-host bar. The auction will include a variety of items including gift certificates for local businesses and a ski vacation.

The murder mystery will be performed by the New Century Players, who will act out an interactive mystery with the diners deciding who the killer is.

The evening will start outside with a mock wedding and the auction. From there, participants will go into the McLean House for dinner and the rest of the murder mystery.

Watters said the response to last year’s murder mystery dinner was so positive the group decided to hold it again this year, with some new twists and turns.

The McLean House is located at 5350 River St. For more information, visit or call 503-655-4268.
