Bob Brending

Robert 'Bob' Brending died Jan. 17, 2012. He was 85.

Mr. Brending was born Jan. 10, 1927, in Devils Lake, N. D., to Paul and Marcella Brending. He spent his early childhood in North Dakota until the family moved to Prosser, Wash. They moved to Jennings Lodge, Ore., before his senior year of high school. He graduated from West Linn High School.

Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served two years. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and began his college education at Lewis and Clark College.

Brending married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Baars, on June 8, 1947. The couple had two children, Cathie and Mark.

Brending earned a degree in education at Lewis and Clark and began his teaching career in the West Linn School District, teaching and coaching at the high school. He earned his administrative certificate and became principal at Wilsonville and Stafford grade schools. He later served as principal at Sunset and Bolton primaries and retired as principal of Stafford Primary in 1984.

Brending enjoyed fishing, golf, boating, water skiing and travel. He enjoyed slalom skiing into his 70s and golf into his 80s.

He was a founding member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Gladstone and volunteered in many positions with the church. He was also a member of the Lions clubs in Gladstone and Canby.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Brending, son and daughter-in-law Mark and Linda Brending and daughter Cathie Sorensen, five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Services will be held Feb. 4 at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, located at 290 S. Gloucester St. in Gladstone.

Jon Forest

Jonathan 'Jon' Morgan Forest died Jan. 26, 2012 of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He was 35.

Mr. Forest was born Aug. 13, 1976, in Lower Merion, Penn., to Maureen (Renie) Fink and Joseph L. Fink III of Lexington, Penn. He graduated from The Lexington School, Henry Clay High School, Evergreen State College and the Information School at the University of Washington.

He was the lead library database administrator for the Clackamas County Public Library. Forest was a lover of knowledge and organizing it to make it accessible and retrievable.

Survivors include his wife, Dr. Lori Forest and their children, Orion and Lucy, all of West Linn, and his brother and sister-in-law, Jake and Shelby Forest of Lexington, Penn.

Mae Jordan

Former West Linn resident Mae (Troutman) Jordan died Jan. 25, 2012. She was 82.

Mrs. Jordan was born May 13, 1929, in Oregon City. Her maiden name was Bietschek. She graduated from West Linn High School.

Survivors include her sons, Dave Troutman of Colton, Ore.; Mark Troutman of Portland and Dan Troutman of Milwaukie; husband, Darel Jordan of Bend; sisters, Ruth Hopp of West Linn,;Nori Zigg of Canby and brother,;Ed Bietschek of West Linn.

A funeral service was held Feb. 1 at noon at Holman-Hankins-Bowker and Waud in Oregon City.
