Wilsonville introduces new Wellness Fair
The City of Wilsonville has merged the Holistic Health Fair and the Community Health Fair into a singular event — the Wilsonville Wellness Fair.
The fair will include a mix of demonstrations and performances, a Bike Road put on by South Metro Area Regional Transit (SMART) and booths from representatives of over 40 businesses specializing in fields related to health and wellness. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Town Center Park.
"They were merged because they essentially had a lot of the same visions and purposes," Erica Behler, the recreation coordinator for Wilsonville Parks and Recreation, said. "We saw it as an opportunity to collaborate between two departments (general City staff and the Parks and Recreation Department) to create a bigger and better event for the city."
Demonstrations will include performances by the Wilsonville Ukulele Players, Steal the Sun Tai Chi, Amada Lopez Youth Cultural Dancers and Lee's Martial Arts. Behler also said a fitness instructor might perform a demonstration.
"We're trying to get a wide range of performances as well ... just a good spread of different activities," Behler said.
The Bike Rodeo will include a short obstacle course through the Parks and Recreation parking lot, where kids will practice skills such as how to cross the street and hand signals, and a helmet decorating station.
Vendors will include traditional as well as alternative health practitioners and services. Examples include Rise Above Hypnosis, Happiness Effect — which features mental health consultation — and Our Biz is Bees, which sells bee pollen and beeswax products. Vendors will provide giveaways, services information and interactive features.
"It gives them (attendees) a really great snapshot of what's available in their community and opens their eyes to nontraditional forms of medicine, like nutrition programs or wellness programs," Behler said. "It's always more comfortable when you can talk to someone face-to-face too. It's a family-friendly event. Hopefully it's a nice day."
