Clackamas closes the game on a 23-4 run to knock off West Linn for the second time

In the most heavily anticipated girls basketball game of the night between the Nos. 3 and 4 teams in the state, West Linn couldn't make an early lead hold up as Clackamas finished the game on an 11-0 run to win 48-39.

It was just the third loss of the season for West Linn but the second at the hands of the Cavaliers. This time around, the Lions had their way for the better part of three quarters.

West Linn's defense was stellar and had Clackamas flummoxed for the first half.

Clackamas mustered two points in the opening quarter as the Lions controlled the tempo of the game for much of the contest.

The Lions led 8-2 after the opening stanza. Defense continued to rule the game in what amounted to a physical contest where each possession was crucial.

West Linn did a nice job on the boards in the game but post Morgan Haskin found herself in foul trouble.

In the third quarter, the Lions would push the lead to 35-25, its biggest advantage of the game after Sidney Kolasinski drained her fourth 3-pointer of the contest.

Kolasinski was the team's go-to player on offense, leading all scorers with 17 points.

However, Clackamas would dominate the contest from that point on. West Linn had its chances to extend the lead but turnovers against the Cavaliers' pressure hurt its rhythm on offense.

Clackamas started to close the gap to end the third quarter and shifted the momentum early in the fourth period.

The Lions clung to a 39-37 lead with less than three minutes to play in the game but wouldn't score again. Clackamas tied the game and followed with a 3-pointer for its first lead of the contest.

West Linn would struggle to get good shots off in the closing minutes and, after giving up the lead, was forced to foul late in the contest.

Clackamas continued to extend its advantage at the foul line and came away with a tough win on the road.

West Linn will look to rebound and grab its first league victory when it takes on Lakeridge Friday.
