Teeth whitening is the most popular cosmetic dental procedure in the U.S. Today, teeth bleaching/whitening easy and affordable. If you have been considering lightening your smile, here are responses to questions we are often asked.
How does bleaching work:
Whitening teeth consists of a peroxide agent applied to the teeth which will remove stain from the enamel (surface layer of the tooth). Foods and beverages with dark color such as; coffee, tea, red wine, and dark greens, can slowly stain the teeth over time. Maintenance bleaching is recommended along with good hygiene practices to sustain your lightened smile.
When you come into our office, we will discuss the process and expected results. After we match your initial tooth shade, we can discuss the best strategy for you to lighten your smile. If an in-office bleaching is recommended we will discuss this with you and all patients will be fitted for take home trays and instructed on use with the whitening gel selected.
Will my crowns change color too?
Unfortunately, no. Fillings and crowns are made from synthetic materials which are impervious to bleaching. Therefore, it is important to discuss with your dental provider if and when to change these restorations if desired.
What results can I expect?
Results will vary from patient to patient, but overall most people experience a lighter brighter smile. Dependent on type of stain, results can be more difficult to obtain, therefore it is critical to discuss with your dental provider on expected results.
