Two children injured

A bus carrying children from Boones Ferry Primary School was involved in a minor accident at Town Center Loop and Parkway Court in Wilsonville on Friday afternoon.

Wilsonville Police and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue medics responded after a car pulled from a side street in front of the bus, which was driving Route 5.

“Thankfully, it was a minor collision and everyone was safe,” Boones Ferry Principal Jennifer Patterson said in an email to parents. “Two children did require medical treatment, and we are happy to know that they are going to be OK. We were fortunate to have immediate assistance from local emergency responders, school personnel and even our very own Boones Ferry parents who happened to drive by. Everyone worked together to ensure that children were safe and reassured — what a tremendous reflection of our tight and well-connected community.”

Children were removed from the damaged bus and placed on a replacement bus to resume their ride home after a one-hour delay. Both the bus and the car sustained minimal damage. Police will conduct a full investigation and issue a report.

Patterson said the school would take steps in response to the incident, including reviewing safety protocols, coordinating with the district and bus company supervisors and revisiting protocols for communication with the bus company and parents.

“While we never hope for situations like this to arise, we do use them as opportunities to keep our processes tight, smooth and well coordinated,” Patterson said. “Student safety is always our bottom line.”
