Seeking student columnists
Are you a high schooler with a passion for writing and sharing your opinions? If so, becoming a student columnist or a member of our Student Writers Advisory Group (SWAG) for the Wilsonville Spokesman might be right up your alley.
This opportunity is a great way to become published, gain journalism experience and meet other talented writers from local high schools.
As a staff, we know high school students are our eyes and ears into local schools and communities. We value your opinions and want to allow your voices to be heard.
Student columnists will be expected to write more frequent, longer columns on a topic of choice whereas SWAG members will attend monthly meetings to discuss various topics to get ideas flowing before settling on an idea that interests the group. SWAG member articles will be shorter and less frequent — more fitting for a busy student or less-experienced writer.
Being a student columnist or SWAG member, you will be expected to adhere to a strict deadline and will need to be committed to sending in continuous copy with a specific word count.
